Add Page Numbers to PDF

Number a selected range in one PDF, preview the placement, and create the result locally in your browser.

The first physical PDF page to number.
The last physical PDF page to number.
For example, PDF page 5 can begin with number 1.

Placement

#000000

Live preview

Preview the number on one page before creating the PDF.

Choose a PDF to preview page-number placement.

Appendices

begin numbering partway through a PDF while leaving earlier pages unchanged.

Scanned packets

apply a clear numeric sequence without rasterizing existing page content.

Input & Output

Input: one local PDF. The source file is read only in your browser.
Numbering: choose physical PDF pages, assign the starting logical number, and optionally show the final logical number as a language-neutral numeric pair.
Controls: decimal or zero-padded digits, six edge positions, margin, Standard PDF font family and weight, color, and size.
Output: one new PDF with vector page-number text on the selected range; pages outside the range and the original file remain unchanged.

Usage Advice

Confirm that From and To refer to physical PDF pages, while Starting number is the value printed on the first selected page.
Preview pages with different sizes or rotations. Generation stops if any label would not fit fully inside its CropBox.
Download and open the result to verify number order, placement, and important document features before sharing it.

Limitations & Compatibility

Output uses language-neutral digits from built-in Standard PDF fonts. It does not add localized text such as “Page X of Y”.
Numbers are never silently scaled, clamped, or drawn outside a page’s CropBox. One non-fitting selected page rejects the entire task.
Finite PDF UserUnit values greater than 0 and at most 75000 are supported; other values are rejected so preview and output geometry stay consistent.
Interactive forms, bookmarks, annotations, layers, and other advanced PDF structures may not be fully preserved.
Creating a modified PDF invalidates existing digital signatures. Re-sign only through a trusted workflow.
Encrypted or password-protected PDFs are not supported and are not decrypted by this tool.

Privacy & Security

Processing and preview run locally in your browser. CrateX.app does not upload, host, or persist the source or generated PDF in Workspace.
